Preserve Strategy Connectivity When Duplicating Google Sheets Files

By default, when you duplicate a spreadsheet using the Duplicate option is Google Sheets, any metadata stored by the add-on is not copied. Due to this, all add-on specific metadata is lost in the duplicated spreadsheet and the add-on appears as if it has no previously imported or configured data.

To address this limitation, starting in Strategy (July 2026), you can use a custom duplication. Use custom duplication to create a copy of the spreadsheet while retaining all add-on metadata, so the duplicated spreadsheet behaves identically to the original from the add-on's perspective.

When you open the add-on in a spreadsheet that is duplicated using custom duplication, all add-on metadata from the source spreadsheet is preserved and all data imported via the add-on in the source spreadsheet is visible in the duplicated spreadsheet.

Apply Custom Duplication

  1. Open your source Google spreadsheet.

  2. Connect to Strategy for Google Sheets™.

  3. Click More Options and choose Duplicate Spreadsheet.

The process will take up to one minute.

  4. The duplicated spreadsheet automatically opens in a new tab.

If the spreadsheet does not open automatically, click the link that displays in the add-on.

  5. To dismiss the duplication dialog, click outside of the duplication notification dialog.

  6. Connect to Strategy for Google Sheets™ in the duplicated spreadsheet.

The add-on automatically populates metadata. All data that was imported in the source spreadsheet prior to duplication is now visible and available in the duplicated spreadsheet.
