Mosaic Value Parameters

Starting in Strategy (September 2026), you can create number, decimal, string, and date/time parameters in Mosaic Studio. Parameters offer robust functionality for users to define and manage named variables that are dynamically adjusted during runtime. These parameters empower users to shape and interact with their data analyses through a dynamic interface, enhancing the flexibility and depth of analytical capabilities without altering the base dataset.

Create Value Parameters in Mosaic Studio

  1. Create a Mosaic Model Using Mosaic Studio and Import Data

  2. In Prep and Model and the Objects tab, click Create Parameter.

  3. Click the parameter name and type a new name for the parameter.

  4. Enter an optional Description.

  5. Expand the Data Type drop-down list and choose the type of data the parameter will hold.

  6. Expand the Allowed Value drop-down list and choose how users can input values by selecting one of the following:

    • User Input: Users can enter a value manually.

    • Fixed List: Users choose from a predefined list of values.

    • Range: Users choose from a range of values within specified limits and intervals.

  7. If you choose User Input, type or select a Default Value.

  8. If you choose Fixed List:

    1. Type a list value.

    2. To add more values to the list, click Add New.

    3. Repeat these steps until the list is complete.

    4. Expand the Default Value drop-down list and choose a value to enter by default.

  9. If you choose Range:

    1. Type a range from lowest to highest.

    2. In Increment, type a increment for the values you can enter between the range.

      The increment value must be less than or equal to the different between the maximum and minimum value.

  10. Click OK.

  11. Your parameters display in a Parameters category in the Mosaic model left pane and in the Datasets pane in a dashboard.

Use Your Parameters in Advanced Metrics

After creating a parameter, you can use it in an advanced metric expression or condition. Use a parameter to customize the following:

  • Use a parameter in an expression: Add a parameter when creating a metric and add it to your metric formula, as shown in the [Date With User Input] value below.

  • Use a parameter in a condition: Add parameters in advanced metric conditions. Parameters are not currently supported in the custom field.

  • Use parameters in validation: After creating parameters and their related metrics, you can use Validation to check your data quickly. Add your parameter to the Filters section.

  • Consume parameters in dashboards: When you create a dashboard for the model, add parameters to the filter panel or to a parameter selector.

Limitations

  • You can not use value parameters in model linking.

  • You can not use Universal Semantic Layer, Agents, and MCP on Mosaic models with value parameters.

  • You can not use Hyper cards on Mosaic models with value parameters.
